Description

After completion of baseline assessment of 2024, we noticed that students of Grade 4th of Ishkashem's boy high school have serious difficulties in reading and writing simple words and recognition of words and sentences. Teaching in this corner of the world (Northeast of Afghanistan) is usually conducted by teacher centered methods. students are not mostly involved in the process of teaching. The design team of this school decided to implement active learning method in this class to give equal opportunities to all types of students to actively participate in teaching/learning process.

Step-by-step instructions for other teachers

Step 2 preparation: in this step, design team of Ishkashem's boy high school decided to implement their solution which was " Active Learning ". they provided necessary training for the language teacher of this class to use student-centered methods in her teaching. they also provided the most urgent TLMs to support their innovation.

Step 2 Implementation: In this solution, students will learn through individual and group work, games with numbers and forbidden words, sentence completion games, shape modeling, mental math activities, and conducting science experiments in the classroom. In this class, students are the center of the activity and teacher act as facilitator.

Step 1 Baseline Assessment: we assessed our students at mid-April which is end of the first month of educational calendar year in Afghanistan. the assessment result was uploaded in Kobo system and later analyzed to recognize the learning domains that needed attention and improvement. in this class, we noticed that the method of teaching was based on classic and usual approaches of teacher's centered methods. the design team of this school decided to implement their solution in the name of active learning to give students the chance to participate and actively work with their teachers.

What kind of results to expect?
