Solve mathematical problems as a team. In this practice, children will learn multiplication through a fun team activity.
Step-by-step instructions for other teachers
Ask children to create in total 20 paper plates each with a number from 1 to 20.
Ask each child to hold one paper plate.
Call out a number and ask the children get into groups based on how they can arrange the numbers written on their plates into a multiplication equation that will equal the number that was called out. For example: If 22 is called out, children with the numbers 2 and 11 form a group because 2 x 11 = 22.
Activity extension: Children can play the same activity with division.
What kind of results to expect?
This activity teaches children not just multiplication, but also communication and collaboration. When multiplication is turned into a game, it makes it exciting for the children.
